How to read the tool
The Department of State page describes what each column shows:
- A column with the average time nonimmigrant visa applicants waited for an interview in the previous month at that post.
- A next available appointment column, which predicts when you can expect an appointment at that location for a visitor visa.
- The same page warns that the average does not guarantee an appointment is available, and that posts release new slots regularly.
- The information is updated monthly, so the figure you see today belongs to the month the tool names, not to today.

The one global figure this page states
When it published the rule that created the expedited appointment fee, the Department of State wrote that the median global wait for a nonimmigrant visa appointment was approximately 30 days, and that at certain posts wait times exceeded 12 months.
Those two figures describe what the document said on the date it was published. They are not today's wait at your consulate: that is what the official tool is for.

Paid expedited appointment (temporary programme)
There is an optional 750 dollar fee that secures a B1/B2 interview appointment within ten business days at selected posts. It runs from July 1, 2026 to December 31, 2026, is charged on top of the standard MRV fee, and per the rule text an applicant who does not attend or who cancels forfeits it. The Department of State publishes the list of participating posts.
